Last Minute Gifts for Students
Left it to the last minute? We’ve got you covered. Great physical and digital — so truly instantaneous — gifts are included below!
Wall Calendar
Students need to plan ahead, so a large wall calendar is the way to go. Get something where they can see the whole school term or semester at once. A whiteboard where they can rule their own lines to make a planner is a great alternative (or perhaps even preferable) to a paper calendar.
Something like this is perfect:

Keyboard, Mouse and Laptop Stand
Many students do all their work from a laptop which can really strain the neck after a while. A Bluetooth keyboard will allow for more comfortable typing, and a separate mouse or trackpad (Bluetooth trackpads fit better in full schoolbags than mice do) allows the laptop to be raised up to eye-level.
A Laptop stand is optional since a stack of textbooks works almost as well, but laptop stands can be inexpensive so it’s a nice touch. Laptop stands can also be very expensive if you want them to include drawers and other features. On the other hand, all but the most minimal stands will not be portable at all.
Mouse:
The surface arc mouse is a great backpack friendly option, but the surface texture of mine degraded after a few years of use. Microsoft has discounts for students.

Keyboard:
I personally have this one and love it for all devices, Apple, PC, and Android.

The pinnacle of portable laptop luxury:
Sticky Tabs/Notes
Students are always afraid of running out of tabs, so you can’t really go wrong. However, for most students plain tabs, rather than illustrated ones, work better because they can be labelled.
The most fabulous sticky note, however, is the clear one. These can be stuck over textbooks and novels so that you can annotate right on the page!
Bubble Tea Voucher
Bubble tea makes for a great study drink/snack. This little sugar rush can make the difference in motivation to complete a big study session. If you know your giftee is a study-at-the-library kind of student, consider an in-app gift card to a bubble tea chain near their preferred library.

Bento Lunch Box
If a lunch box can be trendy, it’s these. Easy to clean and all in one piece (dropping your tiny Tupperware full of hummus as you walk is not fun). Might put pressure on the lunchbox packer to find half a dozen different things to put in it, though.
Spotify Premium
Most students listen to music while they work, so why let the ads get in the way. A subsciption to Spotify premium or any other music streaming service is a great gift. Spotify is the best (if that’s what they already use, no one wants to remake their playlists on a new platform) because a premium subscription also grants you access to 10 hours of audiobooks per month. Many schools’ assigned texts can be found there! “Reading” on the bus has never been easier.
You can even spend and earn Qantas points!

Desk Decorations
Older students spend a lot of time at their desks, so a plant, fairy lights, a beautiful or effective lamp, these can all make a huge difference… and if they don’t have a desk, get the desk itself! A designated place that a student can leave messy is a lot more convenient than having to pack up every night at dinner time.
